There are some things in life you just want to SEE happen, especially when you’re a seer. You crave the manifestation of what has been hoped and longed for, the promises yet unseen. And yet, there are steps that need to be taken for that to happen, and sometimes those steps don’t happen in your sight. Those kind of steps are taken “behind the scenes.”

One of my good friends was keeping a secret from another friend. She was listening to her friend freak out and go on about how she had nowhere to stay during her out-of-the-city student teaching assignment. This was many years ago, so I don’t know how it works today, but apparently, she needed to do her assignment outside of her hometown. Well, my friend’s secret was that she was preparing a room in her home for her friend, but she didn’t let her friend know about it until it was the right time. That time finally came, and her friend was pleasantly surprised to find out that that whole time she was freaking out about where she would stay and how provision would be made, it was being made, and it was being made by the very one she was venting to.

I think that is such a great picture of how the Father is with us. We go through this life freaking out and worrying about the next step, especially if you’re a planner like me. You want to take the reins and full control to map out your life. But God had to check me recently. “Nicole, I have delegated certain responsibilities to you. Leave the rest up to me.” See, when you’re a boss and a leader, it’s easy to take charge. I love to execute. It’s what I’m good at. But over the years, I’ve had to mature and realize I am not the best decision-maker over everything in my life, especially when it comes to those major decisions.

As mere humans, our limited view of life is just that. Limiting. But the One who sees all and knows all has the best vantage point to see what decision is best for our lives.

Sometimes, He gives us His vantage point and floods us with revelation and understanding. Those times are sweet to me because, like my cute cat BJ, I always like to know what’s going on. But sometimes, there are points in our lives where He is quiet, and we are going off of our previous understanding. My previous understanding is that God is faithful and that He doesn’t lie.

Similar to my friend’s experience preparing for her friend to move in, sometimes God has an appointed time as to when he will reveal that next step. It’s not that He’s being mean or doesn’t care—it’s actually the opposite. It’s that He wants to make sure that the room is perfectly ready for when you move into that promise, just like my friend did when she was getting her friend’s room ready.

In this season, I feel like I’m leaping. And it’s not even that I am mid-air. I feel like I am actually quite close to the platform I’m headed to. For most of the leap, I felt like my foot was dangling near the edge, but the platform had not yet been revealed, so I still couldn’t land. I didn’t know where I was landing. But then the fog cleared, and the platform was revealed, and I could finally see it. But still, it was not time to land. Frustration mounted. Pain and grief with it.

After all this time, I have been in the air, and I can finally see the platform. Why can’t I land?!

Have you felt that way? Have you been going in circles or running ragged or waiting endlessly and you can see the finish line, but it seems just out of your grasp? You have already been put through the ringer, once, twice, three times, and it feels like you are being put through the ringer yet again?

When I was sharing with my friend about my impression of leaping in the air and my frustration of finally seeing the platform and still being unable to land, she said very simply, “It’s because the platform is higher. You need a hand to help you up.” Whew! That will preach. Immediately, in my mind’s eye (I have a very vivid imagination), I saw a giant hand reaching down to help me up. I admit that in the natural I am still waiting for that hand.

Is there a hand that needs to help you up? Maybe you are toiling because you can’t get to that next step alone.

I can look at my career and see the hand helping me up. I see those who have gone before who are decades ahead of me and they are reaching behind and they are giving me a leg up. They see who I am and where I am going and they want to help me get there.

But again, these things happen at the appointed time. Everything needs to be set in place behind the scenes. And when that kairos moment comes, you will see the giant hand coming down and giving you that much-needed lift.

Key Scriptures:

John 14:3 And if I’m on my way to get your room ready, I’ll come back and get you so you can live where I live.

Heb 11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

Father, thank You for preparing a room for me. Thank You that even though I cannot see where I am landing I am taking the next step by faith. Your record of provision and showing up for me are unbroken and will not prove me wrong. Thank You that your work is already completed in me and I am just walking out the manifestation of what is already written.
