God is Bringing You THROUGH

I have a friend who’s in tremendous pain. Pain my little brain can’t comprehend, and my little heart can’t take whenever I think about it. Her body is combatting itself. It is fighting the healing that our bodies were made for. Our bodies want to heal themselves, so whenever they do not, there is something opposing it. Imagine your own body opposing itself.

It’s like a civil war within your members.

Sjogren’s Syndrome is just one of her foes, resulting in a lack of tears, but then there is the nerve pain blaring up and down her inner being, the tumors that, thankfully, have recently “disappeared,” and the lack of moving her face. Imagine not being able to smile. Unparalleled agony at the soft touch of the wind, making it feel like a punch in the face. Now she can’t eat solid food.

I can’t imagine.

The thing is, when you are a part of a spiritual body, you are called to feel one another’s pain.

When one suffers we all do.

Have you gone through something with someone, and it felt like it was happening to you?

I remember during the transition of my dear mother. The guy I was seeing at the time shared, “It feels like it happened to me. It feels like it was my mother.”

That was a huge statement because he wasn’t an emotional guy. In fact, he was just the opposite. I knew that God was giving him this heart for me because it simply wasn’t in his nature to be that empathetic.

The Father is like that with us, too. He seems to feel the very little things that hurt us as much as the big things.

The smallest desires of our hearts are near and dear to Him.

I guess that’s what it means when the scripture says He is acquainted with all of our ways. No one on this planet will get you like your Maker does. And that is the beauty of having an intimate relationship with the Divine.

We will always be known.

Sometimes, we walk through harsh seasons with others so that we adopt His heart in the ability to suffer with them. Sometimes, we are called to navigate even our own suffering while doing this.

As I’ve laid, broken by her situation, curled in a fetal position, tears streaming down my face, rocking, I have not understood how one person can go through so much. I have not understood how He could let her.

But at the end of my prayer, all I had was, she is in His hands. I can’t fathom the lengths and depths of this pain, but He can.

Are you going through something, my friend? Are you at your wit’s end and don’t know how you will continue making it?

Or, do you have someone near you that is going through?

Commit them into His hands. Stand on His promise that He will never leave us or forsake us. We serve a God who is not just allowing pain and suffering for the sake of pain and suffering.

The Father does not keep us in the valleys. He brings us through the valleys. He brings us out onto the other side.

The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.

He makes me lie down in green pastures,

he leads me beside quiet waters,

he refreshes my soul.

He guides me along the right paths

for his name’s sake.

Even though I walk

through the darkest valley,

I will fear no evil,

for you are with me;

your rod and your staff,

they comfort me.

-Psalm 23:1-4

Do you know that with all of the brutal, horrific pain my friend is experiencing nonstop in this season, she is still praising Him? I watch her and marvel as we stand in the store, and she brings joy and a smile to the teller’s face, engaging him in conversation. She emanates light greater than the sun gracing Cleveland’s skies that day. Regardless of her suffering, regardless of her relentless pain that only seems to be getting worse day by day, she chooses to bring joy to others.

And that is the lesson I know we are all learning.

That in spite of, we believe, He is bringing us through.

From Anointed to Appointed

The thing about promises from God is there is often no time frame that explicitly states when it’s supposed to be delivered. Take David for example. He was a young shepherd boy, estimated to be between the ages of 10-15 when he was anointed king. Guess...
